Program Description:
Immerse yourself in the Spanish language and Costa Rican culture while attending 40-60 hours of intensive Medical Spanish courses. You will live with a Costa Rican family and practice your new medical Spanish language skills at hospital visits and community service projects. This amazing trip is not all work; you will also travel to beaches, volcanoes and rainforests in Costa Rica!
- Improve your language skills through intensive medical Spanish courses in the mornings.
- Observe and practice medicine in local clinics, hospitals, and schools in the afternoons.
- Provide primary care while working with local charities focused on helping the underserved in and around San Jose.
- Come home to your Costa Rican host family and work on your general Spanish skills.
- Experience the authentic Costa Rican lifestyle.
- Relax on the beach and hike the rainforest to see more of the beautiful country.
- Visit an active volcano and relax in the thermal pools at the base of Volcán Arenal at Tabacón Spa and Resort.
- In your free time, learn how to cook the typical foods "gallo pinto" and dance the traditional dances "salsa and meringue."
15-Day Educational Goals
(March 3 - 17, 2012), (July 7 - 20, 2012):
- 24 hour Spanish language immersion
- Attend 40 hrs of Medical Spanish classes
- Provide approximately 30 hrs of Primary Care and Preventative Health Care Education in various contexts in Costa Rica
- Experience the authentic cultural experience by living with a local family
30-Day Educational Goals
(Feb 27 - March 23, 2012), (June 30 - July 27):
- 24 hour Spanish language immersion
- Attend 60 hrs of Medical Spanish classes
- Provide approximately 50 hrs of Primary Care and Preventative Health Care Education in various contexts in Costa Rica
- Experience the authentic cultural experience by living with a local family

Cost per student:
15-Day Immersion: $2,300.00, 30-Day Immersion: $3,550.00. Cost includes
private in country transportation, lodging, language school tuition and
materials, 2 meals a day, and travel insurance.
Spring 2012 Immersion Program payment due in full upon registration. Summer Program commitment deposit of $1,300 due April 27th, 2012. Payment schedule for balance will be available once registered.
