High School Spanish Immersion Program in Costa Rica

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Common Ground International's High School Spanish Immersion to Costa Rica is a program that is specifically designed to improve your Spanish communication skills, experience first-hand the beauty of Costa Rica, and gain cultural understanding. The four major components of this experience are: Language Immersion, Community Service, Adventure Travel, and Cultural Understanding.
- Improve your Spanish language skills through 4 hours a day of intensive Spanish courses in the mornings.
- Apply your Spanish language skills during your community service projects.
- Experience first hand the Educational System in Costa Rica by visiting local schools and working alongside Costa Rican teachers and students on various educational projects.
- Gain great appreciation for your own blessings as you work in community service projects for the homeless and underserved in Costa Rica.
- Come home to your Costa Rican host family and continue to work on your Spanish conversational skills.
- In your free time, learn how to cook the typical foods "gallo pinto" and dance the traditional dances "salsa and meringue."
- Experience the biodiversity of the country while hiking through primary rainforests, active volcanoes and exploring beautiful beaches!
- Visit an active volcano, take a 3 hour zip line tour through the rainforest, and ride the heated waterslides at Baldi Hot Springs.
15-Day Ed. Goals
(Approx dates: June 22-July 6, 2011):
- 24 hour Spanish language immersion
- Attend 20 hrs of Spanish classes
- Provide approximately 20 hrs of Community Service and English Education in various contexts in Costa Rica
- Experience the authentic cultural experience by living with a local family
30-Day Ed. Goals
(Approx dates: June 22 - July 20, 2011):
- 24 hour Spanish language immersion
- Attend 60+ hrs of Spanish classes
- Provide approximately 60+ hrs of Community Service and English Education in various contexts in Costa Rica
- Experience the authentic cultural experience by living with a local family
